The Marc Jordan Songbook

Rod has been very generous with me

Marc Jordan is a well known name in the writing credits of Rod Stewart albums the most famous being ‘Rhythm of My Heart’ written by Marc and John Capek that Dutch rock and roll artist René Shuman included the song on his 1986 debut album René Shuman. And In 1991 Rod recorded the song for his album ‘Vagabond Heart’ with production by Trevor Horn. It is the album’s opening track and was released as its first single reaching No 3 on the UK chart. No. 5 on the US Billboard Hot 100, and No. 1 on the Canadian and Irish charts. The melody was an adaptation of ‘Loch Lomond’, The meter, stanzas and lyrics are also based on the poem, a nod to Rod’s own Scottish heritage. Eric Rigler played the Great Highland bagpipes heard during Rod’s version.

Marc also wrote ‘This’ with John Joseph Capek that was recorded by Rod on his 1995 album ‘Spanner In The Works’ and the atmospheric ‘Charlie Parker loves Me’ with John Capek, and Steve Kipner that Rod covered on the 2001 album ‘Human’

Rod has once again turned to the Marc Jordan songbook for the title track of his latest album due out later this year ‘Tears Of Hercules’

Speaking to SMILER today Marc told us ..

“I was so pleased when Rod told me he liked , and would record Tears of Hercules for the up coming cd. I wrote that song a few years ago and always loved it …the co writer is Stephan Moccio who was a writer producer on Wrecking Ball for  Miley Cyrus ………the song is about lost love bringing you too your knees. The thought of Rod singing this song is thrilling for me….He professes one of the great voices of the 20th century and he has been very generous with me. He is also one of the biggest stars of our age partly because he , ( as well as being a great writer himself)…. recognizes the elements that make up a great song….I am thrilled and can’t wait to hear it..”

Exciting news on the upcoming record, hoping the sound will be stripped down without the computer, and actual live musicians in the studio. Probably not….”Tears” sounds like it could be another winner ballad for Stewart, at least in the U.K. JD
