X FACTOR bosses have brought in Rod to liven up the show by singing with contestants.
Producers have asked Rod to perform with the four semi-finalists on Sunday’s group song — the first time a star has sung with the acts on this year’s show.
Rod and the starstruck contestants will sing a festive tune taken from his new album, Merry Christmas, Baby.
Show chiefs had been hoping to keep the signing a surprise as the contestants have not yet been told.
Bosses hope that bringing in Rod will boost ratings.
And the show is also getting one over its BBC1 rival Strictly Come Dancing, which has also signed up Rod — but not until its festive special on Christmas Day. An insider said: “It is a big coup to get Rod — and to get him to perform with the contestants.
“He is an absolute legend and is a big fan of the show. He jumped at the chance of being able to perform.”
