This week’s no news and gossip

A very festive week

Have I got no news for you

Funny start to this week when Rod refused to let the BBC show Have I Got News For You show his picture. The show returned this week as the panellists reviewed the biggest stories of the week. But, host Jess Phillips admitted Sir Rod Stewart turned down a request from the BBC to appear on the show in photo form.

Rod was part of a segment where the presenters had to guess the odd one out in a picture. He appeared alongside Emperor Nero, Alexander the Great, and Henry Ford. Guest host Jess then explained what the link was: ā€œThe answer is theyā€™ve all built a city apart from Emperor Nero who was accused of destroying the city of Rome.ā€ This was in reference to the model city Rod had built around his railway layout.

Jess asked the panelists Ian Hislop, Paul Merton, Hannah Fry, and John Richardson: ā€œWhat did Sir Rod Stewart spend 26 years building?ā€ They got the answer right that it was his model railway when Hannah asked: ā€œHave you got a picture of it?ā€ Jess replied: ā€œWe asked Sir Rod if we could use a picture of it and he said no.ā€

In a strange twist to this story SMILER was also contacted by Have I Got News For You as they wanted to feature our fan club magazine on this weeks show in a ā€˜Missing Wordā€™ round where newspaper headlines from the week are read out with a vital word missing for the panel to guess the word which has been removed. It is tradition for a guest publication to be featured alongside this. and the show wanted to include SMILER in this feature, we knew nothing about Rod turning them down but also decided not to proceed with the request.

Pictured above is the first picture of the new issue 100 that will be ready to be sent out very soon!

Penny revealed on Mondays Loose Women that she dresses up as Lady Christmas to cheer up Rod Stewart as he is not a big fan of Christmas.

Penny told her fellow presenters that Rod was not fond of the holiday period so she often dons the costume while wrapping presents.

Penny explained: ‘Rod doesnā€™t love Christmas. He can’t wait till the decorations are down and his house is back to normal. Just to lift his mood I put a little Fatherā€¦ Lady Christmas on. It puts a big smile on his face.’

Laughing, co-host Charlene White said: ‘Do you wear that on Christmas Eve?’

Penny replied: ‘When Iā€™m wrapping presents, yeah.’

Pop Art

We love to show you the latest Rod art work at SMILER and here is a great pop art portrait of Rod by Adam Turkel who says From 1968-1976 few could touch Rod The Mod as a Rock nā€™ Roll singer. Heā€™s one of the all time greats as far as Iā€™m concerned. Iā€™ve had ā€œHey Rod Stewart!ā€ thrown at me as some kind of an insult occasionally over the years depending on the state of my bouffantā€¦cool by meā€¦I take it as a compliment of the highest order!

Adam produces prints and T-Shirts of his artwork , The Rod art work is from his Sharpie range, Speaking to SMILER this week Adam said ” Lifelong Faces/Rod fan right here. One of the greatest R’n’R singers of all timeā€¦best hair too! Love Rod! Hero and legend”.
