This week’s Rod Art

Following on from last week we bring you another brilliant Ronnie Wood [We know you love Ronnie art!] and also a superb Rod both done by talented artist Adara Black who is based in Deadwood, South Dakota, USA.

Adara told SMILER “The majority of my work has been done in pencil, with Rod being done in colored pencil and Ronnie in graphite. Both of these drawings were done fairly early on in my artistic journey back when I was in high school in 2011 and 2013. My dad raised me in San Diego, California on all the great music he had grown up with in the 60’s and 70”s and I absolutely loved it! I would sit for hours listening to music, sketching whoever I was listening to. As I got into color I decided I wanted to choose someone who had a colorful and vibrant personality, and the first person I thought of was Rod Stewart. His music has such a great range: it can be very fun and also very beautiful and moving. I wanted it to be a picture that captured all that. And for Ronnie, he’s always been a huge inspiration for me, not only in his music but also in his own paintings and art. I suppose this is my way of loving and honoring their work”.

Forever Young

A new cover version of Rod’s 1988 hit Forever Young has been released by elite banjo player Daniel Grindstaff featuring Paul Brewster & Dolly Parton

Daniel wrote on his website “The timeless lyrics of “Forever Young” speak of a parent’s love, overcoming adversity, embracing the good times and good memories. Producing this song was an honor. A wonderful cast of heroes and friends joined me in the studio along with special guest vocalists, the great Paul Brewster and the legendary Dolly Parton. Their vocals are nothing short of amazing. Their kindness in agreeing to sing on the track and making a dream of mine become reality is something I will never forget. That kindness and encouragement is what I hope conveys to the listener.”

“Be courageous and be brave and in my heart, you’ll always remain Forever Young.”

Paul Brewster (7-time Grammy Award Winner/IBMA Award Winner) also wrote “A great musician, a great Brother in Christ and what a great project. Thanks for my little part in this Daniel, and of course I am thankful Dolly agreed to come on board and add her iconic voice to the song, which was amazing!”

The track is already in the Top 20 on the Bluegrass Today charts,

Speaking to SMILER this week Daniel said “I have always been a HUGE Rod Stewart fan and loved the song “Forever Young”. The timeless lyrics contained in “Forever Young” have always touched my heart, especially having two children of my own. I often think about how quickly time passes as our children grow into adults and yet for us as parents, they remain “Forever Young”. Covering the song and producing this version was a dream and an honor. A wonderful cast of heroes and friends joined me in the studio along with special guest vocalists, the great Paul Brewster and the legendary Dolly Parton. Their vocals are nothing short of magical, and an absolute dream come true for me, one I’ll never forget.”
