ABBA Voyage Anniversary

At the weekend Penny along with Ronnie and Sally Wood attended the first anniversary performance of “ABBA Voyage” at the ABBA Arena in London.

Following on from last weeks Jeff Beck Tribute shows pianist and visual artist Jan Bijker from Arnhem, The Netherlands created this superb digital artwok of Rod, Ronnie and Sally Wood.

Jan told SMILER “I made it after a photo that Ronnie put up on his Instagram account. It was during the Jeff Beck tribute earlier this week. They’re both great artists to me and Sally is just lovable! I made the drawing on my iPad with an Apple Pencil, so it’s digital art”.

Rod’s 1974 track ‘Girl From The North Country’ was featured in the opening scenes from Amazon Prime’s TV series Citadel in series 1 episode 5

Girl from the North Country is a song written by Bob Dylan that Rod recorded for his 1974 album Smiler.

And Maggie May featured in the opening credits of the HBO Max crime drama Love and Death mini series episode 7.

Congratulations Aiden

Congratulations to Aiden and his under-13s league ream mates, as the teams season came to an end they ended up finishing as runners-up in the league. Rod took to his Instagram Stories to share the special announcement, sharing two photos. In one, the children took a pre-match talk from the boss, while the second saw the team, including Aiden, all smiling together as they wore their medals around their neck.

Hipgnosis deal called off

According to a statement from Rod his proposed deal with Hipgnosis Songs is off, In the statement he says: “This catalogue represents my life’s work,” Rod said. “And it became abundantly clear after much time and due diligence that this was not the right company to manage my song catalogue, career or legacy.”

Rod has 10 solo No.1 albums in the UK, the most recent of which was 2019’s You’re In My Heart, which has 310,100 sales, according to the Official Charts Company. Released in 2021, his most recent set The Tears Of Hercules has 78,406. he also boasts 11 million monthly listeners on Spotify.

Hipgnosis was formed in 2018 and has been rapidly growing ever since. It raised £200 million for its IPO in 2018 and its portfolio of 65,000 songs was valued at $2.7 billion last July. Recent acquisitions include Justin Bieber, TMS and Tobias Jesso Jr. It contributed to the launch of Rod’s new website last year and his new Whisky project.

As reported last week ‘When We Were the Boys: Coming of Age on Rod Stewart’s Out of Order Tour’ The fans favourite book by Stevie Salas is being released as an audio book, The printed book was a massive hit with Rod’s fans with many saying it was the best book they had read by anyone who has worked with Rod. The new audio version is read by Stevie himself and will be released in July.

Two new live recordings released

Two new live recordings have been released this week ..Fist up is ‘Do You Think This 1978 Broadcast Is Sexy?’ a 2 CD recording from Rod’s Blondes Tour at Kings Hall, Belle Vue, Manchester, on 6 December 1978 and released by FM

On Wednesday Rod and Boy George were guests on BBC’s The One Show to promote the UK tour

Host Angellica Bell posted these photos on social media saying ‘Fun and frolics on @bbctheoneshow tonight! Had to keep telling off @sirrodstewart and @boygeorgeofficial for misbehaving! Good luck with the tour. And so chuffed for Colin Salmon, who starts on @bbceastenders this week! It’s been a fun two days with @romankemp….until next time!’

In the short interview Rod announced he changes his stage clothes not because he is having a rest ..but because he is sweating his bollocks off!
