This week’s news and gossip

Including Rod’s new track out this week

Young at Heart

US singer and Rod’s good friend Richard Marx released his new album ‘After Hours’ this week . The LP features interpretations of songs such as ‘The Way You Look Tonight’ and ‘Fly Me To The Moon’, but the 13 tracks also include nine previously unreleased songs.
These include the track ‘Young at Heart’, which Marx recorded together with Sir Rod

Richard told People this week “I’m a lifelong, massive Rod fan. I’ve seen him in concert more than anybody else. Three years ago, we ran into each other in Australia at a restaurant, and it’s led to this friendship. I was in London a year ago for his 80th birthday, and we’re sitting in a pub and he says, “We should do a song together.” The next day he texted me, “I was serious about doing a song if you want to. I was thinking we should do ‘Young at Heart.’” So that’s what we did. The fact that I finally got to collaborate with my hero… I adore him. I’m going on tour with him this year. He means so much to me.”

As reported on SMILER last year Richard Marx will also accompany Rod as a special guest at several of his US concerts this year, including 13th March in Uncasville and on 8th June in Phoenix.

Lyrics

“Young At Heart”
(feat. Rod Stewart)
Fairytales can come true, it can happen to you
If you’re young at heart
For it’s hard, you will find, to be narrow of mind
If you’re young at heart

You can go to extremes with impossible schemes
You can laugh when your dreams fall apart at the seams
And life gets more exciting with each passing day
And love is either in your heart, or on her way

Don’t you know what it’s worth, every treasure on Earth
To be young at heart
Oh, for as rich as you are, it’s much better by far
To be young at heart

And if you should survive to be one hundred and five
Look at all you’ll derive out of being alive
And here is the best part
You have a head start
If you are among the very young at heart

Oh, yes
Oh, yeah-yeah-yeah

And if you should survive to be a hundred and five
Look at all you’ll derive out of being alive
And here is the best part
You have a head start
If you are among the very young at heart

This week’s Rod Art

This week we feature this unusual style of art by Stefan Merkt who has been making artwork made from postage stamps for 37 years in Berlin Germany.

His portrait of Rod was done in 2017 and measuring 40×50 cm

Stefan told SMILER this week “As an artist, I’ve been creating my art from original postage stamps for 37 years… the black paint is applied by hand with a brush… Sir Rod Stewart’s music has been with me since the mid-1970s… I saw his concert in the Böblingen sports hall in 1980 and again on May 3rd, 2019, at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Berlin… Colorful greetings from Berlin”
