Meet Rod The Mod the new horse bought by Suellen Brake who told SMILER this week
“Many years ago my husband at the time backed Sir Rod with his band ‘The Soul Agents.’ This was after ‘The Steampacket’ and before ‘Jeff Beck’ and then ‘The Faces’. Having always been a follower of his career I named my present husband’s first horse ‘Maggie May’ and then her foal ‘Milwaukee’. We have just bought a 7 month old colt and named him ‘Rod the Mod’ as that was what we used to call Sir Rod back in the day“.
“Last time I met Rod was at the house of my friend Lorraine and her partner Alvin Lee of ‘Ten Years After’. Rod was in secret meetings with the ‘Faces’ planning to leave Jeff Beck. Not long after I left London and the music business to return to rural life in Dorset, I met my husband Pete about 25 years ago and persuaded him to give up motor bikes and ride horses instead, So, when we got the first one, she had to be ‘Maggie May’. photo 1, her foal photo 3 ‘Milwaukee’ and our newest one 7 month old colt ‘Rod the Mod’ photo 2…3 or so years ago I took my husband Pete to see Rod at Taunton Cricket Ground, he had never been to a concert before and he loved it. It would have been cool to meet Rod again but obviously he was so famous now that it would not be possible”.

This week’s Rod art is something a bit [ok a lot!] different than usual, Hot Rod [Stewart] is by MartĂn FernĂĄndez a Graphic Designer from Argentina. Martin is also an illustrator who draws people of the Pop 80s / 90s Culture with a twist and told SMILER this week

Rod’s Passion is a song that first appeared in 1980 on his album Foolish Behaviour. It was the lead single and biggest hit from the album. The song was also released as a 12-inch promotional single with an extended running time of 7:30.

Cregan & Co played The Stables in Wavendon on Sunday night and Rod and Penny were spotted in the crowd supporting Rod’s old bandmate and enjoying a night of excellent music
Spike from the Quireboys was also in attendance and posted a photo after the show captioned Great show and a great night and Jim captioned his photo Some geeza turned up to say hello and give us some friendly pointers⌠but what does he know!

Rod took his sons Alastair, Aiden and Liam to Celtic Park on Wednesday to see Celtic beat Rangers 3-0 and go to the top of the league.
Rod also called on the club’s hierarchy to bury the hatchet and be the instigators behind moving back to the derby away supports of old.
saying he’s sad the boards of the clubs have taken the “childish” decision to abolish the away end for the first two derbies of the season.
He told TalkSport: “I’m so glad you mentioned that on the ban on Rangers fans – it’s so childish.
“It really ruins the atmosphere. We must get back to normal.
“It’s great when the fans are singing back and forth to each other, taking the mickey out of each other. It’s what football is all about.
“We have to go high when they go low, and vice-versa.
“Someone’s got to come out and say, we are the bigger club, we are going to have the supporters back.”
Big news…
Rod was recording in the studio on Tuesday with Jools Holland, Dave Swift and acclaimed producer Nitin Sawhney working on an album of jazz, blues & R&B standards, Rod wants an earthy, gritty vibe, nothing too cabaret sounding!
