Members of a gay choir from Edinburgh, Scotland were given the chance of a lifetime when Rod invited them to take part in his Christmas television special.
Rod became a fan of the Loud and Proud choral group after seeing a video of them performing online and personally requested that they be on the show.
Vice Chair Annie Park told SMILER,
‘Loud & Proud choir was absolutely thrilled to be asked by Rod to perform at his Christmas Special in the magnificent Great Hall of Stirling Castle. The Castle itself provided a magical and wonderfully atmospheric backdrop for one of the most glamourous gigs that Scotland has seen for a while. Rod was completely charming with us and joked with our guys about making sure he got his Scottish pronunciation right and exchanged some thoughts on the football with a fellow Celtic supporter in the choir. To appear on stage with Rod and his fabulous guests, Kylie Minogue, Michael Buble and Nicola Benedetti was for most of us, the gig of a lifetime. We’re still buzzing about it now as we prepare for our own Christmas concerts at Stockbridge Parish Church in Edinburgh on 7 and 8 December.
Loud and Proud was formed in 2005, and has more than 70 members, whose ages range from 19 to 70. Last year, they also found fame after appearing on the lead float in Paris’s gay pride parade.
Rod Stewart’s festive special is due to be broadcast on 9 December on ITV.
