The King and Rod

Teatro Real, Madrid Spain 5th July 2016 Review By Kerry Stevens

Rod had some very special guests last night at his concert at Teatro Real in Madrid King Felipe VI and his wife the Queen of Spain Letizia Ortiz Rocasolano, fans were shocked to see the Royal couple entering the venue by the front entrance and taking there seats with other lucky fans at the side section of the arena.

The concert was the first part of the Universal Music Festival and was another success for Rod and his amazing band, although not much happened that was different than other reviews on SMILER from this tour it was still a fantastic night for the 1,750 in attendance.

The show opened with ‘Having A Party’ and that’s just what the crowd in this intimate setting did, although it was a small venue the crowd and the Royals knew the words to all the songs and sang along to ‘Tonight’s The Night’, ‘Downtown Train’, ‘Have I told you lately’ and First cut is the deepest’

‘Forever Young’ got everyone up out of there seats and it was great to hear ‘Sweet little Rock n Roller’ and a blistering ‘Stay with me’, ‘Hot Legs’ saw the usual footballs kicked into the crowd but Rod wasn’t brave enough to blast one towards The King, although a couple ended up in the cheep seats [if there actually were any cheep seats!]

The number one hits ‘Maggie May’ and ‘Baby Jane’ whipped everyone into a frenzy and the band finished with ‘Sailing’

The curtain rose again to Rod wearing a cowboy hat who announced that it was not over yet before bursting into ‘Do Ya think I’m Sexy’

The King and Queen went back stage for a quick chat with Rod after the show and actresses Maria Leon,Sandra Barneda, and Vanesa Romero, actors Toni Cantó,and Pepón Nieto, socialite Carmen Lomana, singer Álex Ubago, and presenter Nieves Herrero were also spotted in the star studded audience.
