This week we start back in last week …While Rod was at The Cheltenham Festival he had this great photo taken with Tracey Sandalls and Lizzie Kelly. Tracey told SMILER this week “Rod was very approachable, he spoke to us lovely and was a very nice guy”

Is Blue The Colour ?

First bit of interesting news this week was a report at the weekend that
Legendary music PR guru Barbara Charone is poised to join the Chelsea board if Todd Boehly’s consortium successfully buys the club

Telegraph journalist Matt Law said Charone, who is a Chelsea season ticket holder and has an impressive roster of clients including the likes of Rod, Madonna, and Primal Scream, has a professional history with Chelsea having worked with Suggs on his 1997 hit ‘Blue Day’, which featured some of the club’s players.

Da Ya Think I’m Compliance ?

French bootlegger Rems79 has produced a new mash up of Rod’s ‘Da Ya Think I’m Sexy’ and ‘Compliance’ by Muse
Speaking to SMILER this week Rems79 explained what inspired it,

“Muse’s new single “Compliance” made me think of the rhythm of Rod Stewart’s famous song and so I put these two songs together”

Auger Incorporated

Soul Bank Music has announced a back catalogue deal with legendary musician and jazz keyboard master Brian Auger – with the release of a career spanning compilation ‘Auger Incorporated’. Lauded and loved by artists as diverse as Mose Allison to The Brand New Heavies, his tracks have been sampled by Mos Def, Common, Air and Kid Loco, his original compositions covered by Sarah Vaughan, Richard ‘Groove’ Holmes and The Main Ingredient.

Auger Incorporated includes classics and rarities from Brian Auger’s ground-breaking, genre busting catalogue, and reaches back to his early 60’s debut as an award-winning jazz piano prodigy, his transformation into a swinging London Hammond Organ player via his groups’ The Steampacket and Julie Driscoll, Brian Auger & The Trinity whose blend of jazz, R&B and pop idioms saw him credited as one of the earliest protagonists of jazz fusion, that reputation was further enhanced via his flagship 70s group Brian Auger’s Oblivion Express. The 90s saw Brian hailed as the ‘godfather of acid jazz’, this Grammy Nominee is also the proud recipient of a US Congressional Certificate of Special Recognition for his ‘contribution to the American art form of Jazz’ and is championed by several generations of musicians and fans.

Soul Bank’s Greg Boraman; “This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to fully re-issue nearly everything Brian has released, but to also finally unleash the vast number of musical gems from Brian’s own archive that have never been heard before, including live concerts and radio sessions, collaborative projects with equally legendary artists, alternate versions and out-takes – it’s a goldmine of sounds from across his entire 60-year career”.

Rolling ‘Art’ Stones

This weeks Rod art is another unusual gem done by stone painter Simon Lam

Talking to SMILER this week Simon said “I am a cosmetic dentist working in Puckeridge, near Hertford. I started stone painting 35 years ago when I was at university (Dundee). I then stopped after 2 years. During March 2020, I got Covid and was extremely ill in hospital for 12 days. Luckily I managed to recover and during my recovery, I started stone painting again (33 years later!). It was such a therapeutic way to get better. I have since painted over 150 stones and you can see most of them on my Instagram”.

Simon’s music legends series has 9 amazing stones here is the collection

And Finally..

Photo Jim Pietryga

Ronnie Wood may be thought of as The Rolling Stones perpetual “new boy” but has released 11 studio albums with the Stones since joining in 1976 – He was reportedly treated as a hired hand for more than a decade but despite that, in an assessment this week of all the current and ex band members he came in as the fourth richest with a net worth of US$200 million, largely from The Rolling Stones’ mammoth tours.

Lets hope it’s not too long before we see him back doing his proper job..although I am not sure Jim Pietryga who is a big Stones fan and took the great photo above would agree with that statement 😆
