The day Rod made me Barbara

By Martin Heidt

July 2013. Rod Stewart was on tour in Germany and I was waiting for the show in Dortmund. The day before I had a date (yes I had 😉) with Katja Rieckermann and parts of her family at the Band hotel right opposite of the Westfalenhalle where the music excitement should take place the next day. We had a nice chat in the lobby, some cold drinks and a lot of fun. By the way on this very July evening the idea of a German website for Katja was born.

Before our blonde saxophone player went back to her room she asked if I had something for Rod to sign. Of course I had and – very surprising – I got my, German version of Rod The Autobiographie out of my back. Katja said I could get it back signrd the next day after the show.
Brilliant….

I don’t want to mention too many parts of the concert because it ended up in Ballgate. As Rod kicked the balls a very crazy person in the crowd kicked one back and hit Lucy Woodward on the legs. Rod became very upset, absolutely understandable. And ended the night without any encore and very listless.

After the show I went over to the Band hotel and waited for Katja. When she arrived she told me to order a drink and she would come back downstairs in a few minutes. When we were sitting at the table Katja said:”Well Rod signed your book. But he was in a very bad mood and mixed up the books. Well now your name is Barbara and a Barbara is now Martin” Bloody hell I thought but as the time went by I thought that this was a very funny moment and decided to keep the autograph by accident to my collection.

And meanwhile I got a copy with a nice Good Luck Martin written down by Sir Rod…All good things come to an end.
