Returned home at Three this morning following a fantastic night at Swansea. This concert was right up there with the best of them and the poor sound at Newbury seemed to have been rectified with crystal clear sound and Rods voice being easily heard above the band.
The Jazz band that could have shaved some valuable money off the price of the ticket should be scrapped as they were not only poor but did nothing to get the crowd going and I wondered if anybody actually realised they were on. The security again was non existent and many people who had seats stayed at the front when he came on and firmly rooted themselves there all night despite requests from Rod to sit down.
Second half he asked us all to sit down due to complaints he was receiving when he said ‘come on take your your very expensive seats for this one it is a slow one’ and people behind cant see’. He gave up and said, ‘I did try’
The set was pretty much the same as newbury just mixed up in a different order. Despite reports that they hadn’t sold many tickets it was almost full and the crowd were in excellent voice during I Don’t Want To Talk About It and Do Ya Think I’m Sexy in particular but for Sailing the noise from the crowd was as loud as I have ever heard, I just wish Rod would have allowed them to take it on their own for at least one chorus. He made a quick exit whilst the band finished on playing out Sailing,
Everyone I spoke to walking back to the car said he is amazing, young and old alike would welcome him back to Swansea for another show and Rod himself seemed to be really relaxed in fine voice and smiling enjoying a show to rival some of the best shows I have seen from him.
He presented the play off trophy to the guys from Swansea town and allowed them all to take centre stage to share their success with the crowd. Unfortunately most of the squad had already started their holidays and were not there, however it was a nice touch and something they should be proud of. At one point during the show he said to the crowd well done for your promotion to the premier league next season you will have the likes of Rooney and Lampard standing on your pitch and followed it up by saying “the tossers” Id agree where Rooney is concerned but Lampard for me is pure class!
Hope everyone enjoys Rod’s next gig at Ellend Road Leeds, if its as good as Swansea you’re in for a treat but for me it’s roll on Norwich!!
