NEW YORK–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Dec. 4, 2003–J Records recording artist and music legend Rod Stewart was Grammy nominated today in the Best Traditional Pop Album category for his platinum album As Time Goes By…The Great American Songbook Volume II. This marks another career achievement for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame-r who’s first album of these beloved songs, It Had To Be You…The Great American Songbook Volume I, was nominated last year in the same category, and has already reached double-platinum status.
Upon hearing the news, Stewart said, “I couldn’t be happier. I’m absolutely delighted and humbled by this nomination. These are some of the most beautiful and lilting songs ever written, it’s a thrill to have found as big of an audience who love them as much as I do.”
The nomination arrives the same week Stewart announced his first tour in three years, “From Maggie May to The Great American Songbook.” This 44-city tour will kick off in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, on February 6th, 2004, just two days before the Grammy ceremony. The tour is a culmination of the legendary singer’s impressive career that has spanned three decades, sold over 120 million albums worldwide, and earned him 13 Grammy nominations.
