Reimagining:Rod Stewart 1977

The Amazing artwork of Jason Recker

In Grade 7, award-winning Canadian artist and graphic designer,Jason Recker took a marker to his Levi’s jean jacket and drew the AC/DC logo on the back. Next thing you know he’s drawing the Aerosmith logo on one friends jacket and the KISS logo on another. The custom jacket was a hit and that’s where his love of music and art collided.

Now, years later, He pays tribute to the music he grew up on and loved by reimagining iconic Rolling Stone covers of the past. saying ‘I love the moments in music history each one of these represent, Creating these are like hanging out with old friends that got me through all the different stages of life, Making what was old new again… Breathing new life into moments in time’.

Jason who lives in London, Ontario, has just finished his latest masterpiece, Rod’s Rolling Stone cover from 1977 that was commissioned by long time fan Kim Redmond who says she has seen Rod live fifteen times.

Speaking to SMILER this week Jason says “I scan and enlarge the original cover in black and white and then start reimagining it, I always listen to the music that they were making around and before that cover was made, That helps me get into their groove and also helps me get started with colours and feel, I never really know where each one is going so I just go with the flow and see where it leads… Always an adventure!”

The finished result has now had the resign finish added and is amazing, so much so Kim has already ordered another cover from 1973 and Jason has promised he will show us the result.
