Before the show started, it was like most of Rod’s shows, old friends meeting and new friendships starting.
Rod came out on stage an sang “THIS OLD HEART”, followed by one his older hits “YOUNG TURKS” which went well. Rod made announcement that show would about 1 an 1/2 hours long, take pictures, sing along, this your show so sit back an enjoy.
When Rod was singing “TONIGHT’S THE NIGHT” the audience seemed to be subdued.
When Rod started to sing “TWISTING THE NIGHT AWAY”, the audience started to respond and go wild. Rod’s party has started, everybody was getting into it and you could see that Rod was responding to the energy of the crowd. Rod sang two more songs “YOU WEAR IT WELL” and “RYTHM OF MY HEART”. Rod now introduced that his daughter Ruby and she will sing a song she wrote called “JUST ONE MORE DAY”. I fell that in a couple of years she is going to be a star. Now Rod and Ruby sang “FOREVER YOUNG”, they sounded great together.
The chairs came out an Rod sang the following songs “FIRST CUT IS THE DEEPEST”, “HAVE I TOLD YOU LATELY” and “HAVE YOURSELF A MERRY CHRISMAS”. Now Rod sang “MOTOWN SONG”, he motion the crowd to get involved and sing along. He started the next set with “SWEET ROCK AND ROLLER” as he traveled across the stage. He approached me, I told him I have been a fan since 1976, then he shook my hand. He then continued into crowd and shook there hands. Rod left the stage for a costume change.
The singers and band did “PROUD MARY”. When this was done, Rod came out and sang “YOU’RE IN MY HEART”, the crowd sang along with him. Now Rod put the dog video on and pictures of him in drag. After this Rod sang “HOT LEGS”, while singing he started to kick soccer balls into crowd. He put a few up into the third balcony. He even gave me one personally, this makes my tenth ball.
The last song he sang was “MAGGIE MAY” and of course the crowd sang along an then the curtain comes down. There was a long pause before the curtain came back up, I started to get concerned that he may not come back out. The curtain came up and he sang “DA YA THINK I’M SEXY”. The concert was great and I can not wait to see Rod in New York this December.
I have been to over 115 shows since 1976. I started to see Rod from the balcony and now I must be some were in the first seven rows. The ball I got will be added to my collection in the room that I have set aside as a Rod Stewart shine.
