A charity dinner and dance raised £4,000 for a breast cancer clinical trials unit at the weekend.
The event, held at Blakes Golf Club in Epping Road, North Weald, saw over 150 guests entertained by a raffle, live music and an auction in a bid to raise funds for the St Margaret’s Hospital Breast Cancer Clinical Trials Unit.
One of the main prizes in the auction was a Scotland shirt signed by Rod and former Tottenham Hotspur player, Dave MacKay and which was purchased by friend of SMILER Ian Logie for £400.
Ian told SMILER “Rod footballs have to be earned like a military medal in combat at shows and so I will never ever bid for one – BUT I was recently given the opportunity to bid the full extent of the Logie overdraft on a Scotland shirt bearing the signature of not only Rod but one of the finest players & captains to wear the white shirt of my other lifes mistress Tottenham Hotspur .
To say I was happy to receive the news I was successful is so far an understatement I have no clue what the comparison would be – I have followed Spurs since just before Dave began his illustrious career with us and pledged my alliegance to Scotland many years before I knew Rod existed so to have this Golden Triangle become mine was beyond words & to crown all that I find the shirt is numbered 14 which happened to be my Mums birthday
