Dan also gives his thoughts on why Rod’s fans should have been given a special anniversary edition and what extra tracks could have been included…
So, this year marks the special occasion of Rod’s premiere and much-loved long player, ‘The Rod Stewart Album’ – an important and relevant release in the history of British rock. And what did the record companies have in mind to celebrate the 50th anniversary besides yet another hits compilation packaged up to seem like something new and special, you guess it – ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! It’s simply thoughtless and disgraceful to both the Rod Stewart legacy and his devoted fans everywhere. Don’t we deserve better?
THE ROD STEWART ALBUM/AN OLD RAINCOAT WON’T EVER LET YOU DOWN was the start of a very successful recording career for Rod the solo artist. His vocals on that first album are nothing short of stunning with close to perfectly crafted arrangements, and for the first time truly showcases all his talents as a vocalist, songwriter, producer, and arranger. Rod also assembled an outstanding studio backing band in Ron Wood, Martin Quittenton, Martin Pugh and Mickey Waller with Mike D’Abo and Keith Emerson contributing their talents on two tracks each.
