SMILER is proud to announce the 2015 calendar; this year we have given it a special ‘Arty’ theme…
We asked you to send in your Rod related art work – and we were blown away with how talented Rod’s fans are! All the best works of art featured in Yve Paige’s annual montage will again be spread over two laminated posters, and Rod and Penny will, as always, choose their favourite to win this year’s competition.
We also have a very special cover for 2015 featuring art contributions from Ronnie Wood, Ian McLagan, and Kenney Jones. Plus, we managed to get something personal that was done by Ronnie Lane and Tetsu to give it a real Faces feel. And to finish it off, Rod signed it to make this our best cover ever!
As usual and most importantly we have some of the best photographers around:
Joining us for the second year is Don Adkins, who is a Redondo Beach-based photographer, with the majority of his work revolving around the world of rock music, both in the studio and on stage for a variety of clients and publications. His work includes images of Rod, Elton John, Iggy Pop, U2, Genesis, David Byrne, Sammy Hagar, Stevie Nicks, Bon Jovi, Peter Gabriel, Jackson Browne, Alanis Morrisette, and many others. Don’s pictures went down a storm last year, and has been a major help again with this years calendar contributing some amazing pictures.
Also joining us again with some stunning shots is Nick Busco, who is renowned for always having the best seat in the house. In 1976 he began working for Tom Fields Associates, a Massachusetts Rock and Roll lighting company, and soon found himself out on the road. Over the years he worked with Rod, Queen, Tom Petty, Bonnie Raitt, Chicago, and many others. His photographs are one of a kind pieces of history from the glory days of touring, Today Nick has his own boutique production company in Los Angeles CA, Busco Productions.
We also have some brilliant shots from Allen Warren, who is an English society-photographer, writer, and former actor. His work encompasses works of many celebrities during the late 1960s, 70s and into the 80s. Included are members of the British Royal Family, influential politicians, artists in both music and literature, as well as some of the most important people in Hollywood of the era, and Penny Lancaster, who took a photography course in 1999. The course lasted for two years and she passed with a distinction. She graduated from her photography lessons with a diploma. Since then she has enjoyed her success as a specialized photographer. She took projects from newspapers and magazines. Penny also takes pictures of Rod for newspapers, fan mail, magazines, tour programs,and also takes pictures for ‘Hello!’ magazine.
New this year we have a real treat from Dan Cuny, who was was born in Chicago and has lived in the Bay Area of America since 1967. Throughout the 1970s, he photographed many performances of British musicians at venues in the Bay Area using a Hanimex Practica camera with a Sears 200mm lens. His photographs have appeared in BAM, Musician, and Guitar Player, and he served as a staff photographer at Fantasy Records. He has maintained a lifelong interest in cameras and photography, and currently collects and sells photographic items as a hobby
We also have some surprises and unseen photographs from Rod’s recent tours, The calendar will again be A3 size printed in top quality on 200gsm silk paper with a gloss laminated 400gsm cover, and every one who buys a copy will get a great free A3 laminated poster of Rod taken on his last UK tour.
The limited edition calendar will make it’s debut at the SMILER Rod party in Nottingham on Oct 4th and will then go on sale in our merchandise section.
