Jim Cregan has told how Rod faced death threats on tour – prompting band members to avoid him on stage in case they were killed too!.
Rod was forced to hire armed security after the sinister threats were made against him while he was touring Britain. But his fellow musicians were so scared they would go the opposite end of the stage to where he was singing – in case they were caught up in an attack.
Jim told the story on an episode of his Podcast Cars and Guitars’.
He said: ”When we were doing a British tour, I can’t remember why but there was a death threat made to Rod and we took it quite seriously.
”We had a couple of armed guards, bodyguards who came with us.
”But the amusing part was with Rod on the stage wherever he went the whole band would go up the other end of the stage.
”It was a wonderful shuffle. If he stood in the middle we’d all go out to the edges.”
