Didn’t I’

Rod’s new single ‘Didn’t I’ is going down a storm on both sides of the Atlantic and currently just bubbling under the top 10 in the Adult Contemporary chart in America after being this week’s fastest climber.

We have had quite a few emails here at SMILER asking who is Bridget Cady who is featured on the track and provides the fantastic vocals.

Bridget is well known to SMILER members, and anyone who has attended any of Rod’s concerts will know Bridget is a full time member of Rod’s band

Bridget was born and raised in New York City. She was blessed with her singing ability, thanks to good genes. Her grandfather LeVern Hutcherson, was an Opera singer known for his roles as Porgy, in George Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess, Joe is Carmen Jones, Joe in Showboat, and Rev, Stephen Kumalo in Lost in The Stars. Her Aunt Valeria was also an opera singer at the Hamburg Opera House in Germany.

While recovering from major spinal surgery in Germany at the tender age of thirteen, Bridget realised that she could belt out a song just as well as the Diva’s on the radio, and decided to put her promising tennis career on hold, and pursue singing and performing professionally.

Bridget has since toured extensively worldwide for over fifteen years singing both in English and Italian with acts such as Rod, Eros Ramazzotti, and Elisa. She’s had the pleasure of sharing the stage with Stevie Nicks, Ronnie Wood, David Foster, Alicia Keys and many others. Adding to her many talents, Bridget was cast in a lead role as Joanne in the Pulitzer Prize winning Broadway Musical RENT. On more than one occasion, Bridget has performed for Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles and the Royal family.

Bridget has recorded background vocals on Rod’s albums Time, Soul Book, and Merry Christmas Baby and is an accomplished songwriter. She has written songs for other artist both in Europe and America, and is currently finishing her solo album.

Speaking of the track Bridget told SMILER “So I am beyond honored to be a part of Sir Stewart’s album, especially being a featured artist on it!! It’s absolutely an incredible feeling. That song is so relevant, people can relate to ‘Didn’t I’, I have a son, and I can only imagine how it feels to have a child suffering from any dependency. When I recorded that piece, I just closed my eyes and sang and felt”.
