Meanwhile on The One Show last night Rod made a rude ‘s***ging’ gesture, being interviewed live from home as part of the VE Day celebrations Rod revealed the extraordinary events around his birth as the Second World War was ending. Describing himself as an “air raid shelter baby”, he said: “Do you know, I was only five months old when all of this was going on.”
“In fact, I nearly didn’t make it because just 20 minutes before I was born a V2 rocket dropped on the local police station.”
Rod then made a joke re-enactment of his birth, saying: “I think that’s when my mum must have gone ergh! and I was out.”
And as The One Show presenter Huw Edwards laughed and asked Sir Rod to tell viewers about his dad’s part in events, the cheeky rockstar played on his questions double meaning.Asking about his dad’s part in the war effort, Huw said: “It’s interesting Rod because your dad also played a part, didn’t he, so tell us about him.”
Instead, joking on his Dad’s role in his birth, the rock star made a rude gesture and said: “Oh yeah, well of course he was…oh, sorry!” Rod then went on to explain the brave role his father played in WW2 as part of the ARP or Air Rescue Police.
“He was in the ARP, that’s the Air Rescue Police, so he had to go to hospitals and pull out children, it involved bomb sites,” he explained.
“It was a dreadful job but he was brave and he did it.”
