As we at SMILER are always on the lookout for something different to bring you in the news ..How about this little ditty we recently came across from Raised By Owls an extreme metal band spawned from the depths of Derbyshire in the UK.
Raised By Owls debut album ‘The Great British Grind Off’ released three years ago featured some amazingly titled tracks like ‘Harry Potter And The Curse Of The Student Loan’, ‘Cliff Richard Drinks From The Skulls Of His Enemies’ and the one that caught our eye track 13 ‘Rot Stewart’
The amazing album artwork by Jim’ll Paint It also features Rod along with Cliff Richard, Mary Berry, Boris Johnson and many more..
Sam Fowler the bands lead vocalist told SMILER today how the track came about
”Rot Stewart’ was the first song Raised By Owls wrote as a band and I think it sums up what we’re about. Horrible, abrasive extreme metal with warped lyrics lampooning British culture. The song lyrically focuses on the process of death and doesn’t actually have anything to do with Rod Stewart. It was just a play on words that we liked and had a nice ring to it. When it was time to release our debut album ‘The Great British Grind Off’ we recruited the help of internet legend Jim’ll Paint It for the album artwork. He immortalised Rod as a member of the undead crawling among us in the beer garden of a typically British pub. It’s actually one of my favorite bits of the artwork. Thanks for including us on rodstewartfanclub.com – Just to be clear, there is no malice towards Rod in our work, just a group of lads being daft. My mum is going to be chuffed we’ve been included on the fan club website’.
