Rod at the Jubilee Concert
Rod was welcomed to the stage as ‘Rock legend Sir Rod Stewart’, and started by singing Baby Jane alongside band members Amanda, Holly and Becca who wore dresses mirroring the Union Jack colours. With Kevin on keyboards.

Before he sang the second song Rod told the crowds: â’This is a fun one for me to sing, the BBC made me sing this one.â Urging the crowd to âjoin in, make it comfortable for meâ

The BBC wanted Rod to get the crowd going and he did not disappoint as he went straight on to sing the party anthem ‘Sweet Caroline’, The Royals especially Prince William and Prince George seemed to love it and waved their Union Jacks as did Kate, while the crowds up the Mall were all seen singing and dancing to Rod’s version.

Rod ended by saying ‘God Bless Her Majesty, Up the NHS and Please God save the Ukraine’, However I am sure you have all seen the mixed reactions the song and Rod’s performance got on social media so I won’t repeat them again on here.
After the show, Rod revealed that he and the girl singers all recently recovered from Covid-19 after jetting back to the UK in the middle of his US tour. ‘I just came home especially for this, and I got Covid and I got over it! All six of us got it, we’re just glad to be here,’ he said.
On Sunday Penny posted this lovely family photo captioned Happy Jubilee celebrations

In an interview with BBC Entertainment News, Rod later explained that the broadcasting company asked him to perform Sweet Caroline.
He said: “It wasn’t my choice, but you know.”
The reporter then said: “But it’s a great song, isn’t it?”
To which he replied: “Yeah, but it’s not one of mine.”
Rod also joked that that the Queen herself called him and asked him to perform Baby Jane.
For anyone who is still confused Sweet Caroline was chosen by listeners of Zoe Ball’s Radio 2 Breakfast Show as an “uplifting, happy” melody everyone can sing at street parties and events. when announcing the campaign, Zoe described the 53-year-old hit as “A song of togetherness”. It was hoped that 10 million people would join the singalong on June 5th and Rod was given the honour of being chosen to lead the singing at the big concert.
Zoe told SMILER this week “It was the phone in vote winner and Rod was good, he is always good!”
At the event Rod also met up with Space man singer Sam Ryder who shared this great shot on Instagram.

Rod also later posted this gem on Instagram

During her Loose Women show on Wednesday Penny explained about Rod’s performance,
âHe lost his voice, so the sound check on the Wednesday, he went along and for precaution he wore a mask, but had no voice,â
Penny continued: âHe went for another rehearsal on the Friday. It was touch and go. His voice is there now, but it wasnât quite on, but he didnât want to disappoint everybody.â
âIt wasnât the Rod Stewart show, it was the show for the nation, for the Queen, for everyone to come together,â Penny added. âHe wanted to please people and that was the song.â
Guess Who ?
Who do you think wrote this Platinum jubilee message for the Queen before the big show?

Maybe the same person who wrote this on Adrianna’s drum in Vegas?

Philippe Régnier covers Rod Classic
French singer Philippe RĂ©gnier has recorded a brand new version of Rod’s ‘Da Ya Think I’m Sexy’ He has not just done a re-mix but put his own slant on the song.
Talking to SMILER this week Philippe told us “I live in France and have been a big fan of Rod since I first heard that sexy song. I was very young and Rod brought a freshness, sensuality, tenderness and also his personal British humour to the music and I loved it straight away. It was he who gave me the impetus to start a musical career in France. As I pursue my own, I follow his career since always. At the moment, I’m preparing a set of international covers to play this summer on the beautiful French beaches. I was looking for a song to make a video to promote my tour and naturally chose Rod’s fun and sexy song (with a little French humour this time!). I made the orchestration a bit more rock frenchy and put my voice on it, trying to get rid of my bad accent! It is sincerely a great honour to be relayed by your fan club’s website”

Philippe added “I am very honoured to join your fan club now! Big and sincere greetings to Sir Rod Stewart, May God grant that one day he may see my video and give me his opinion!”.
The New album
Talking to Forbes this week Rod gave a couple of details about the new album..

You know, Jools Holland? I’m doing a swing album with him. We’re halfway through it and it’s really great, but it’s not the sort of Frank Sinatra swing, it’s more like, I don’t know, like “Rock Around The Clock.” We play it rock and roll style. We’ve done “The Lullaby of Broadway.” So many songs we’ve done. It’s so great. His band is amazing. And he records in a little studio, which is probably three times the size of this and he gets 18 musicians in there and they all play live and all the solos are alive. No one overdubs, except for me when I do the vocals. So I think we’ve got a follow on and they’re all fast numbers too. I played it to the band last night before we went out to dinner and everyone was just rocking.
Asked if he had a favourite track Rod said
My favorite is “Ain’t Misbehavin’.” Jools takes it into double time in the middle really.

Rod and Penny had a reason to celebrate earlier today as they marked their 15th anniversary, although they had to do it bit early as Rod was due to leave for his US tour.
