Some Girls Have All The Luck

The Isle of Wight Festival Review for SMILER 11th June 2017 By Mandy Parent

So with our ticket to Ryde in hand we went sailing over the Solent to the beautiful Isle of Wight on the south coast of England for our latest Rodfest. We popped on our leopard wellies and hats and off we went on the Ruby red double decker Festival bus.. whoop Rod here we come!

Teepees, brightly coloured flags flying high, beer flowing and people glowing, the atmosphere was electric.

On top form and dapper as ever, Rod burst on to the stage, a vision in gold where he belted out his hits Some Guys Have All the Luck, Baby Jane, Maggie, Sexy, I Was Only Joking, Gasoline Alley, to name a few. He swung his chequered mike stand round in true Rod hallmark style and shook his booty to the delight of the crowd. Everyone sang along, as we all know the words to every song, of course we do! A few glam costume changes he looked ever the Knight in glitterama. He rounded off the perfect night with Sailing, which of course brought the house down, especially on an island we had all sailed to, to be with him, to be free!

He joked that he’d been at the football (England v Scotland) the night before and that he’d been shouting a lot and said how lucky we (England) were to draw with his favourite team! He said we never win anything! I don’t know what he means??? He then kicked out his famous signed footballs to many delighted fans (I have still yet to catch one!).

Rod’s backing singers were in fine form in their red tartan kilts and white shirts, fiddly dee-ing away. The sax player and backing singers were on fire too and the crowd went wild. The show and our hearts were stolen, however, by 5 year old Aiden, aka Mr mini Penny, Rod’s youngest, who came on stage and waved his leopard print scarf whilst Dad sang ā€œForever Youngā€.

I managed to meet a few bewigged, tartan and leopard clad mega fans (Rob and his gang from Dursley, Gloucestershire are the ones holding me up!) throughout the night and got a few photos taken with them – another fantastic night and what a great crowd Rod’s fans are!
