Last week we came across Stitchin In the Kitchen who had just started work on a what was already starting to look an amazing stiching of Rod
Stitching In The Kitchen turned out to be Jane Sanders who is a textile artist who sews portraits of popular musicians.
Jane told SMILER that she is huge music lover, and a huge sewing lover “I decided to marry the two together and stitch pop stars!..I do my own choices for solo shows, and also take on commissions, and Rod Stewart is one of those. I am making him for a massive fan based in the North East”.
We asked Jane how a work of art like this comes together
“I start with an initial drawing, then transfer this onto felt, which I then build up with different coloured threads on my vintage Singer sewing machine. I use a technique called appliqué, and build up layers of different fabrics giving it a 3D appearance. In the past I’ve done countless portraits of many different stars from jazz singers to contemporary musicians”.
Yesterday Jane completed her Rod stitching and told us she will be producing some limited edition prints very soon and we will let you know how to order when they are done..We think it looks stunning!
