Rod attends BFI screening

And has some good news for SMILER’s

Rod attended a special screening of Rod the Mod [Aka An Easter with Rod] at The BFI Southbank studio in London last night.

He attended with Penny, sister Mary and his daughter Renée, who enjoyed the second screening of the rare documentary courtesy of Andy Lawrence who arranged for the restoration of the material whilst researching a project for BBC4.

One of the most pleasing recent TV finds thought ‘missing, believed wiped’ was this fascinating 1960s documentary following the young Rod Stewart just before he became famous. The film is not only an intriguing look at the early days of a music superstar but it also shines a spotlight on a vanished London music scene and captures the excitement of the burgeoning British pop explosion.

After the screening Rod joined the film’s director Francis Megahy and Dick Fiddy from the BFI to discuss the film and Rod’s career, this was followed by questions from the audience full reports on this will follow on SMILER Retro and the next issue of SMILER but one little snippet that will be of particular interest to SMILER members came when a question from Maggie Scahill came, announcing she was a SMILER member to cheers from the crowd and Rod, she asked if Rod would be touring the UK …and Rod announced he would be touring next year with tickets coming on sale in September with a special album and ticket offer with his new album ‘Blood Red Roses’

Full reports and exclusive pictures coming soon in SMILER Retro and SMILER Issue 94.
