Canadian SMILER’s brave the snow storm part 2

A.C.C. Toronto, Ontario Canada Concert 15/12/13 – Review by Wendy Garbett

Steve Winwood opened for Rod right on the dot at 7:30pm
The first song he performed was Superman, his set went untill exactly 8:30pm and then we had a 15 minute break!

I was totally startled to see all 19,800 seats, practically sold out! Then, at 8:50pm the Curtain came up and Rod walked out on Stage. All of a sudden, his entire audience of fans were applauding and some were even trying to run up by the Stage. Rod was wearing a nice grey suit and started out singing his fantastic, awesome song “This Old Heart Of Mine”. He soon got the audience joining in and singing along! Rod’s band is totally out of this world. The sound and rhythm was even harmonized while Rod was singing and Rod didn’t make one mistake with any of his songs! The Person sitting next to us seemed to know all the words to his songs. Now, talk about a ‘True Rod Stewart Fan’!

Rod then changed into his Hot Pink Suit, the one that looks identical to the front cover of his 1979 CD Greatest Hits. He introduced his daughter (Ruby) and she sang a few songs including “Forever Young” with Rod. Ruby has such a beautiful voice and sure knew how to hold those notes for so long. Her performance was so overwhelming that I definitely see another successful talent that runs in Rod’s Family! After Rod sang his 3rd song “You Wear It Well”, he apologised to all his audience for rescheduling April’s Concert, which we knew he meant May 1st, for today’s December 15/2013 concert.

When Rod sang his 5th song “Stay With Me” he said we have some new and old ones to sing. He then sang “Tonight’s The Night” and talk about the crowd joining in on that song! Rod even paused for his fans to fill in the rest of the words. I was totally mesmerized to actually hear Rod sing “The Motown Song” which I haven’t heard him sing for years! He also had so many screens that displayed the original videos to some of those songs, talk about totally fantastic!

Just before Rod was going to sing his 13th song, he told the audience that he had written this new song “Brighton Beach” for and about his daughter Sarah. I found that very heart warming. Rod sure knows what songs to choose to really touch the heart of his fans. I saw a lot of the audience cuddle up, hold hands, hug…It sure happened when he sang his 14th song, “Have I told You Lately” Rod’s 17th song he sang at last nights concert, I had never heard him sing at any of his previous concerts that we have attended. It was a real treat to hear ”I Would Rather go Blind” which he sang years and years ago with Ronnie Wood. I was totally amazed at Rod’s entire band and singers. While Rod left the stage, they got the audience going strong with that awesome song, “Proud Mary”.

Then Rod came back on stage wearing yellow pants and a white top and sang “I Was Only Joking”. This song got most of the crowd joining in on every word! Rods 21st song “Hot Legs” sent the entire crowd trying to catch the soccer balls that Rod kept on kicking out into the audience, I was even close at catching one, but no luck! I thought wearing my Celtic top with Rod Stewart’s name & 10 at the back of it, just might bring me some luck. Perhaps another time!

Thanks Rod for another; fantastic, awesome, concert!
