Jeff Golub Dies aged 59

Sad news coming in today

Jeff Golub a former guitarist in Rod’s band from 1988 to 1995 died today, Jan. 1, following a lengthy illness. He was 59.

The precise cause and place of death have not yet been reported but Jeff had experienced a series of physical setbacks in recent years that ultimately caused him to no longer be able to perform.

In June 2011, Jeff became blind due to collapse of the optic nerve, and In September 2012, he fell on the tracks of a subway and was saved by onlookers he was brought to New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center with minor injuries.

He was later diagnosed with more serious, at first unidentified, issues later determined to be a rare and incurable brain disorder called Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP). Fans contributed tens of thousands of dollars toward his medical expenses via crowd-funding websites and an auction.

Jeff performed on 4 albums and 5 world tours with Rod as well as recording the live DVD “One Night Only” live at Royal Albert Hall.
