Rod called out Brand 20 years ago
As disgraced comedian Russell Brand awaits sentencing for rape and sexual assault, we recall the time Rod called him out after Brand made a crude remark about his daughter, Kimberly during the 2006 GQ Man of the Year awards.

While accepting the award for Most Stylish Man, Brand made a distasteful comment to Rod, who was in the audience.
Saying: “Here’s to Rod Stewart who had a go at me earlier this year for too much womanising. But then again I did have a go on his daughter.”
Later when Rod was invited on stage to accept an award for Outstanding Achiever he took his opportunity to hit back. Saying, “You went with my daughter, did you?” before telling Brand to “stand up”
Brand backtracked, saying he “took her out for one evening”, to which Rod asked: “Did you behave yourself?” backtracking again Brand said: “I never touched that girl.”
Rod hit back again: “Fucking right, you didn’t. You mustn’t come up here and boast. I speak here as a father.” Twenty years later, Brand has been found guilty of rape and sexual assault.
Loose Women
Penny was on the panel of ITV‘s Loose Women on Thursday and told how Rod wakes the kids up with bagpipes

laughing Penny said: “Bagpipes can be quite triggering to our children.
“Rod has subjected them to the bagpipe alarm clock. So, mummy does a very gentle, ‘Come on darling, wake up, [I’ll] open the curtains just a little bit, I’ll be back in five minutes’, give you a little stir.
“No, my husband goes in and says, ‘Get up’ and five minutes later they’re not. On goes the CD of Scottish bagpipes on a little CD box , and he puts it on the other side of the room so they have to get out of bed to turn it off.”
Penny revealed the rock legend “still does it” regularly, and she got a phone call from one of their sons “the other week” to complain.
She added: “They hate it, but it’s one of those memories I’m sure they will hang onto.”
Meanwhile, Penny insisted she has no issues with the sound, even if some people find the traditional Celtic instrument off putting.
She said: “I love the bagpipes. My husband’s heritage, his father’s Scottish, our children were Christened in Scotland and so there’s lots of bagpipes for every celebration.
“It’s a very heartwarming sound, I think.”
Penny also spoke about reports this week that she tried to stop him drinking
“No, no. I would never tell my husband that he can’t do any one particular thing. That’s not the way to deal with it.”
Adding: “But it’s moderation. He wanted to play football forever and I said, ‘Great, you’ve had a knee replacement so why don’t we just maybe play half the football game instead of the whole game?’
And Finally….
Sad news announced this week when the passing of the hugely talented and versatile but, sometimes, unfairly over-looked Harrogate singer Sylvia McNeill was announced in the obituaries section of the Autumn 2026 edition of Equity magazine.

Between 1968 and 1975, she recorded as a solo artist on RCA Victor, Bell, United Artists, and MAM Records and also sang on Rod’s track What’s Made Milwaukee Famous (Has Made a Loser Out of Me) that was a double A-side with Angel.

See you next week….
