Marella Cruises

The 2026 TV advert for Marella Cruises features the Faces Ooh La La

The company’s new integrated brand campaign, ‘Your Next Story’, that puts real life, lived moments and the joy of retelling them at the heart of its creative. Targetting over-40s, the campaign moves beyond outdated stereotypes, celebrating an audience that is curious, adventurous and self-aware.

Live across TV, on demand, print, digital and social media, the advert was developed in partnership with Leo UK and brought to life by Brace Productions, marking a confident step forward for Marella Cruises, with a tone and style that feels distinctly its own. The advert is set to Ooh La La by Faces, reinforcing its sense of nostalgia, character and emotional pull.

The 40 second lead advert follows a 40 something couple mid story, recounting their cruise holiday to friends. What unfolds is a series of warm, humorous and relatable moments, presented not as a polished montage but as memories being brought back to life.

Shot using vintage lenses, the scenes carry a soft, dreamlike quality, reflecting how memories evolve with each retelling, gaining richness and colour over time. The result is something that feels distinctly human, less like a traditional advert and more like a story you have told many times and still enjoy sharing.

The campaign went live on Monday and will be shown across broadcast channels: ITV, Channel 4, STV and Sky. The campaign was created by Marella Cruises with the help of creative partners, Leo UK, production agency, Brace Productions London, with media planned and bought by EssenceMediacom.

This Week’s Rod Art

This week we feature the work of Eric Craig a who owns Eric Craig Studios based in Chicago

Eric does photography, design, painting and is starting to get into sculpture.

Talking to SMILER this week about the inspiration for his fantastic portrait of Rod Eric said

“I went to school at Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia and would listen to Rod Stewart while working sometimes. Our assignment was to pick a prominent figure and do a portrait of them, but include a textured pattern or unique style. I chose pointillism with technical ink pens and incorporated diamond shapes and checkered patterns in his eyes”.

Love Train

The story of the model railway club that Rod donated £10,000 to after it was vandalised has been turned into a play.

The Market Deeping Model Railway Club’s £60,000 display was ruined by four teenagers at Welland Academy in Stamford, Lincolnshire, in 2019 and now Playwright William Ivory has turned it into a drama which is showing at Nottingham Playhouse until 25 July.

In 2019, four 16-year-old boys admitted criminal damage at Lincoln Youth Court. Members of the club said a life’s work had been destroyed with some displays taking years to complete.

Following thousands of donations, about 30 members of the club managed to restore the displays by hand, which took approximately 1,000 hours. Sir Rod was later presented with an honorary membership by club chairman Peter Davies.

In a statement published on the singer’s official website, her family said: “Bonnie’s family and team are heartbroken to announce that Bonnie unexpectedly passed away last night in hospital in Portugal as a result of the illness that she was being treated for.

“We will issue a further statement shortly but for now ask for privacy to deal with this tragedy.”

Rod led the tributes to Bonnie posting “We shared similar styles of vocalising. She was a good pal, a true soul stirrer.

“I sing It’s A Heartache every night on tour. I’ll miss you darling Bonnie.”

Rod and Bonnie recorded a duet titled Battle Of The Sexes for Bonnie’s

2019 album Between the Earth and the Stars.

Sir Rod had also paid tribute to Bonnie’s music years earlier by recording his own version of It’s a Heartache for his 2006 album Still the Same… Great Rock Classics of Our Time and still regularly performed the song during his live shows.

Bonnie was also a fan of Rod’s music and talked to SMILER a few times over the years and gave me a great interview for our 2019 issue 96 In 2019,

Kings Trust

Just hours after Bonnie Tyler’s death was announced, Rod performed her iconic hit It’s a Heartache at an event, and the intimate crowd became visibly emotional.
