Rod arrived by private plane to the Uruguay capital on Wednesday and stayed at the Sofitel hotel in Carrasco where he was happy to meet up with his special fans, many kitted out in Celtic shirts including Fernanda Bengua and Verónica Silvera Rivas .

Master class: Uruguay also celebrates Sir Rod
Last Wednesday, all eyes, especially those of the Uruguayan media, were on Montevideo Airport. Rod Stewart arrived at Aeropuerto Internacional de Carrasco in his private jet from the Dominican Republic and climbed out of his plane in visibly good spirits. A limousine took him straight to the Sofitel Hotel, where the singer was staying. On Thursday, Sir Rod was out and about in the city, visiting the Maritime Museum, among other places.
This was not Stewart’s first visit to the Uruguayan capital. He had already performed in Montevideo in 1989 and 2014, with the show on 28 February 1989 in particular going down in the country’s history as it was the first concert in Montevideo’s Estadio Centenario, which had already hosted the World Cup in 1930.
Yesterday, Friday, Rod was back on stage at the stadium, presenting one of the ‘most energetic shows of 2025,’ as the news portal montevideo.com put it.
The visitors were greeted on the huge screen in the middle of the stage: ‘Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. It’s wonderful to be back in Montevideo. Enjoy it to the fullest, we certainly will. It’s Friday night, let the party begin,’ it read. The lovingly written text is signed by Rod Stewart and his band.
When Stewart then takes to the stage with his band, a murmur ripples through the audience of 18,000 and cheers erupt.
“Stewart, wearing his tiger-print jacket and sporting the same blond hair he had in his heyday, sets out determinedly on a conquest. Not only does he sing with that mixture of suppressed anger and sensuality that characterises his rough voice, but he also immediately dominates the stage: he makes little jumps, moves his hips and arms with ease and dances around with the microphone stand as if he were James Brown. He is 80 years old and his energy is unbroken,” sums up montevideo.com.
Rod gets the crowd going right from the start. ‘Infatuation’, ‘Havin’ A Party’ and ‘Tonight I’m Yours’ get the masses dancing. Those who aren’t into jumping around sing along loudly and euphorically.
The fans are having fun, as are the singer and his musicians on stage, and that makes the two hours or so a unique happening.
‘It’s Friday night, it’s a party. Let’s go!’ Stewart had called out to the audience, and they followed the singer’s instructions to perfection.
The set list offered the audience the usual mix of rock hits and soulful ballads. Sir Rod did without any special surprises or highlights in the programme this time.
Nevertheless, the 80-year-old turned the evening into a ‘masterclass party’ (montevideo.com). During ‘Da Ya Think I’m Sexy’, signed footballs flew into the audience, and he performed ‘Sailing’ as always with a captain’s hat on his tousled head.
After 100 minutes, the visitors made their way home, thrilled by a night in a class of its own, but saddened because it might actually have been the living legend’s last performance in Uruguay.

Compact, dynamic, fast-paced: Rod Stewart and band in Santiago
One concert highlight follows another, and Rod Stewart continues to enchant the masses. Just a moment ago in Montevideo, now already in Santiago de Chile. The 80-year-old singer doesn’t allow himself a break, simply touring from city to city, country to country and arena to arena. In doing so, he sends the crowds of fans who flock to his concerts into ecstasy time and time again.
This was also the case yesterday, Sunday, at the Claro Arena in the Chilean capital Santiago. 20,000 people came to see what may be the Maggie May singer’s last concert in Chile.
‘From the very first chords, Stewart was in the groove and enjoyed every second on stage,’ wrote ADN Radio in its concert review.
‘It’s great to be back in Santiago. Forget the problems of the world, forget your own, and let the good times roll,’ our hero greeted his audience and opened with a powerful rendition of Robert Palmer’s song ‘Addicted To Love’, followed by his classics ‘You Wear It Well’ and ‘Ooh La La’, before really stepping on the gas with ‘Tonight I’m Yours’.
One of the highlights of the evening was ‘Forever Young’ – again with the familiar Riverdance interlude. ADN Radio raved about Rod’s ‘Girl Army’, which brought the house down during the short interlude in the song. Rod used these moments to quickly disappear backstage and treat himself to a little refreshment.
At the end, there was a small change to the set list: ‘Hot Legs’ danced its way into the programme and kicked the Faces classic onto the musical substitute bench, at least for this evening. Speaking of kicking, the ever-popular signed footballs were once again kicked into the stadium, and lucky was the person who managed to get hold of one of these balls, sometimes only after a brief scuffle with their neighbours.
‘Stewart thrilled with a compact, dynamic and fast-paced show,’ wrote the Chilean online portal RockandPop. And it didn’t forget to praise Rod’s musicians for their professional performance. ‘The band is incredible, they played practically without breaks.’

Rod Stewart begins three-day mini-tour in Buenos Aires
Buenos Aires – a city in a state of Stewartian emergency. No sooner had the 80-year-old singer set foot in the Argentine capital during the week than the first fans appeared, seizing every opportunity to express their admiration for the Brit and snatch a souvenir photo with Sir Rod or an autograph.
The Maggie May singer strolled through the streets of the metropolis, home to over 15 million inhabitants, completely relaxed, fulfilling all requests for autographs or photos with great composure and always finding time for a quick chat with his fans.
Three shows in three days – Rod Stewart also really rocked Buenos Aires musically. The Moviestar Arena, where Stewart invited everyone to dance on all three evenings, was sold out to the last seat when Rod kicked off the concert trilogy on Wednesday.
15,000 fans, big and small, old and young, had come to experience a piece of music history that evening. And of course, Rod did not disappoint his fans, taking to the stage in high spirits and really getting the already passionate Argentinians going with his two 80s hits ‘Infatuation’ and ‘Tonight I’m Yours’.
The news portal La Nacion wrote of a ‘walk around the world’, referring to the singer’s great hit potential after six decades in the music business. Indeed, Sir Rod played almost all of his big hits, as usual.
The audience particularly celebrated the song ‘Forever Young’, singing along enthusiastically with thousands of voices and reminiscing. This song has long since become the secret anthem of Stewart fans around the world, as Sir Rod, at the proud age of 80, still performs his famous hip swings, dance moves and microphone stand waving on stage – all just like in his heyday.
The British singer with Scottish roots, who is remarkably fit, demanded a lot from the audience, who were already well prepared for the party. Whether it was dance routines or requests to sing along, the spectators in the arena gave their all and went home at least as exhausted as Rod was when he left the stage and was chauffeured to the Hotel Faena, where he was staying for the duration of his visit. ‘We’ll be here for about two hours. Have fun,’ Rod called out to the audience at the beginning of the evening, and yes, the visitors had fun, but really fun.
‘Baby Jane,’ ‘Young Turks’ and ‘Maggie May’ – it was the big hits that created an atmosphere in the arena that Buenos Aires hadn’t seen in a long time. Of course, the sentimental songs such as ‘Have I Told You Lately’ and ‘I’d Rather Go Blind’ were not missing either, and every song from the Celtic fan’s throat was absorbed until the very end. The visitors were on their own personal Stewart trip.
At the end of the almost two-hour show, Rod had come up with something very special and sent the visitors home happy with an instrumental version of ‘Don’t Cry For Me Argentina’ from the musical ‘Evita’ and a picture of Eva Peron on the big screen.
This is not the only reason why Buenos Aires loves the British singer so much, and many of the visitors will certainly be back for the two further shows on Thursday and Friday, when the Stewart Express really picks up speed again.

Speaking to SMILER this week Adrian said “It is a joy for us to have Rod here in Argentina. It would also be great if Mrs. Adriana D’Eramo, who ordered this gift for Rod, could come and say hello and have a souvenir photo with him again.
I have been a friend and personal goldsmith of Pope Francis for 30 years and I know how important it is for people to reach figures for what they mean in their hearts.”
Adriana is of course well known to SMILER members and has spoke to us often about Rod’s superb Argentinian fan club.

Buenos Aires Update – 23 October
Given the magnificent opening night at the Movistar Arena on Wednesday, it came as no surprise that Sir Rod’s second performance yesterday, Thursday, was also a resounding success.
The audience once again included some familiar faces from the previous evening – quite a few Argentine fans had managed to secure tickets for all three shows in the Argentine capital in advance.
Sir Rod made a few minor changes to the set list, opening the evening with ‘Havin’ A Party,’ which was in no way inferior to Wednesday’s opener ‘Infatuation.’ During the course of the approximately two-hour show, Rod also presented the Simply Red classic ‘If You Don’t Know Me By Now’, and ‘Have I Told You Lately’ slipped out of the ‘starting eleven’, which was filled with the blues hit ‘Rollin’ & Tumblin’’.
This did not dampen the mood in the arena, as the 15,000 fans in the once again packed arena celebrated merrily as if there were no tomorrow and no third concert on Friday.
During the short refreshment breaks, the band skilfully filled the set list with songs, replacing ‘I’m Every Woman’, which the singers had performed on Wednesday, with the Pointer Sisters’ big hit ‘I’m So Excited’.
Today, Friday, Sir Rod ends his tour of Central and South America with his third performance in Buenos Aires in three days and slowly but surely sets course for Europe, where the next concerts are scheduled for the end of November.
