One of Rod’s most underrated albums has got to be 1986s ROD STEWART, which was curiously also released as EVERY BEAT OF MY HEART. The reason for the two different album titles seems to be because neither Rod nor his management could come up with, or decide on a suitable name for the album that fit, therefore it was put out as ROD STEWART BY ROD STEWART in the US and Canada, and issued everywhere else as EBOMH. Originally, Rod had planned to name his new album after his father and seriously wanted to call it, BOB STEWART’S SON’S NEXT ALBUM (reflecting Rod’s quirky sense of humor), but the record label rejected that humorous idea. Too bad since anything would have been preferable to using another album track again as a title, or even worse just naming it ROD STEWART! Interestingly enough, I have a two conflicting pre-release reviews/articles that list two separate titles for the then upcoming release, one being “Security Devise” (what a great title that would have been!), and the other was some numbers from the albums bar code “9254461” (?!). All this might seem minor, but it adds nothing but puzzlement for the music buyer and a bit of unneeded confusion to Rod’s catalog. And let’s not forget, that Rod’s first long player in the US was titled THE ROD STEWART ALBUM. So if you are a not in the know and are searching for a copy of Rod’s ’86 release in North America, you’ll probably have to type in or ask something along the lines of: “Do you have the Rod Stewart album with the hit song “Love Touch” on it?
