Strictly Come Dancing professional Kevin Clifton or Kevin from Grimsby as he affectionately known, has told a story about Rod apologising for his single ‘Can’t Stop Me Now’ being ‘shit’ when Kevin danced to it in the popular BBC show in 2013
In his podcast The Kevin Clifton Show, the dancer recalled his conversation with Rod backstage after he had danced to the song with his then wife Karen Hauer.
Kevin said that some of his fellow pros turned down the opportunity but he jumped at the chance, At first, he told listeners he was “scared” to approach Rod as he admitted: “I wasn’t sure if you were allowed to speak to the guest artists or not.”
He added: “I really wanted to go up to him and say hello as I thought, when am I going to get this opportunity again? There’s Rod Stewart right in front of me!”
“I went over to him and said, ‘Rod this is my very first show on Strictly Come Dancing, it’s a real honour to be dancing with you’.”
Kevin added: “He said, ‘Oh yeah, sorry mate, thanks for dancing to my song, really sorry my song is shit’.
“I was like, ‘It’s not s**t at all! It’s brilliant song, I enjoyed it’.”
