The City Of York Pipe Band Pipers Laura Simpson, Karen Hayes and Brandon Brighton joined drummer Joe Lancaster on stage at Rod’s York Racecourse concert on 1st June, The band is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year so what better way to add to the celebrations.

Laura told SMILER after the big gig “We feel truly honoured to have been part of such an amazing show, it is the band’s most exciting gig to date. We kicked of the show at 6:50 playing for half an hour as the crowds formed. We got to enjoy the warm up Johnny Mac and The Faithful and Rod from front row seats at the side of the stage and can say his voice, moves and everything are as good as they ever where!

Then part two we were backstage again as we took to the stage to perform with Rod, During the Emerson Swinford version of ‘Going Home’. The experience was remarkable, fully enjoyable and we so hope we can be a part of something like this again!. The band practices every wednesday night at Huntington memorial hall, york 7-10 and welcome new and experienced pipers and drummers”.
