I can’t remember last time I looked forward to a Rod Stewart album the way I looked forward to Blood Red Roses. With the very strong albums ‘Time’ and ‘Another Country’ behind him, showcasing strong lyrics and well crafted songs, my anticipation was high. And here’s something (deep breath), I enjoy listening to those two albums as much as I enjoy listening to ‘Every Picture Tells A Story’ and ‘Never A Dull Moment’. And if I was allowed one post 1974 Desert Island Disc I’d struggle to choose between those and any of the Warner Brothers albums. So, with my credibility shot to pieces, seven weeks and over 100 listens later, here’s my verdict on ‘Blood Red Roses’.
