Regular Smilers will know of my obsession with Rod’s forgotten (lost?) television appearances. Those Top Of The Pops performances so irresponsibly junked by the BBC, the long forgotten chat with Sally James on Saturday Scene, the surprise Rod n Ron appearance on the local London news programme Today and the lengthy pre- Cup Final 1974 spot on ITV where Rod was joined by Elton John for a lively chat with the late Ed Stewart who hilariously introduced the pair as Cilla Black and Lulu! These are just three examples of footage that has never seen the light of day since original broadcast but may well still exist in the ITV archive. One day maybe…
The Holy Grail that is An Easter With Rod makes the set of Stewart exclusive concert and documentary films complete. And to be invited to see this film for a second time and watch it with the man himself was nothing short of an impossible dream. Astonishingly last night was the first time Rod had seen the entire programme himself!
