It was announced today that Rod and Penny would follow in the footsteps of Status Quo by walking down the legendary cobbles of Weatherfield by appearing in a cameo role on the British TV soap opera Coronation Street.
Corrie fans will remember in 2005 Status Quo made a similar cameo appearance appearing in three episodes when they attended Les and Cillas wedding and played the hit single Rocking All Over The World.
Rod’s storyline is being kept secret but producers say Rod and Penny will be seen drinking in the Rovers before Rod sings a duet with the streets diva, ex club singer Rita Fairclough around the famous Rovers piano.
An ITV spokesman said of Les Battersby’s return to the soap, ‘Fans of the show will remember Les left to be a Roadie for Status Quo, his story has moved on while he has been away, he has now progressed and joined Rod’s roadcrew and he is now very keen to show off his new boss Sir Rod Stewart and his glamorous wife Lady Penny to the regulars in his old local’.
Rod and Penny will go to the Manchester studios to film the storyline later in the year, A spokesman for Rod said ‘Both Rod and Penny are lifelong Corrie fans, Rod fell in love with busty leopard print clad barmaid Bet Lynch in the 70’s and has watched it ever since and as Rod’s band The Faces were well known for frequenting british pubs it seems only fitting that our announcement coincides with the birthday of his old band mate Ronnie Lane’.
