Memories for Rod at the big match

Scotland v England

When Rod takes his seat at the big match for the Group F World Cup qualifier at Hampden Park tomorrow [Saturday] evening it will no doubt bring back good memories as it is the 40th anniversary of the infamous 1977 match between the auld enemy.

At the match at Wembley stadium on June 4th 1977 Scotland beat England 2-1 and thousands of over-exuberant scots ran onto the hallowed turf and ripped it up to take pocket fulls home as a souvenir, Fans also snapped the crossbar and took that home!

And Rod joined them..

Rod remembered ‘It is a day I remember well. I wanted to go on the pitch with the rest of the fans but I was there with my dad, who said no’ I said to him, “Just try and stop me”. When I got to the pitch, police were trying to stop fans going on. I lifted my hat to show my face. When the officer saw who it was, he said: “Oh all right, go on then”.’

Rod will be hoping for another Scotland victory at Hampden on Saturday and if you want to see the match or see if you can spot Rod in the crowd [Or maybe on the pitch!] the match will be shown Saturday, 10 June 2017, On ITV , ITV HD, Sky Sports 1, Sky Sports 1 HD, Sky Sports 5 and Sky Sports 5 HD.
