Rod has given a hospice in Scotland has been given a huge fundraising boost by donating the jacket he recently wore on stage at his Falkirk Stadium concert to be auctioned off for the Strathcarron Hospice in Stirlingshire.
Rod not only signed the white designer jacket and included a certificate of authenticity, but he also wrote to the local council to ask them to allow a special bucket collection at the stadium.
Angela Gillies, the marketing and communications manager for the Hospice, said she was incredibly grateful to Rod his donation which will hopefully raise thousands of pounds for the good cause.
She said: “He has been so generous and helpful. We are charitable partners with Falkirk Football Club, so when Rod announced he was playing there, we approached his PR team in London ahead of the gig to ask if there was anything they might be able to donate for an auction, and the response has been amazing.
“The jacket arrived after the show, with a signed photo of him wearing it on stage, and his autograph. We have launched a silent auction on our website to allow as many people as possible to bid for it.
“We also asked if we could hold a bucket collection outside the stadium at the concert and we received a letter from his management company in Los Angeles requesting that we be the nominated charity for the collection. When we then asked the council for permission, they said ‘if it’s fine with Rod Stewart, then it’s fine with us.’
”We raised more than £5,000 from that collection.
The Hospice, based near Denny, has been open since 1981 and requires £75,000 a week fundraising ing to look after terminal patients and people with life limiting conditions in the Stirlingshire area – either at the facility itself, or in their own home via the Strathcarron Hospice@Home service.
