Dave Allen’s book is out this week

SMILER members will remember Dave Allen who started the hugely popular Rod The Mod series we ran recently and shared the great photo of Rod [above]

At the end of Dave’s contributions he told us he would soon be publishing a book containing more un seen pictures of Rod from this fasinating era..well the book is now out!

Here is Dave’s information mailout as we are sure many members will want to buy copies and see the pictures for yourself and maybe if you live local to Portsmouth you might like to meet Dave and let him know you are a SMILER member..

This A4 book contains over 400 colour and b&w images of local and national performers, Portsmouth venues, posters, tickets, fans etc from the dance bands of the early 1950s to the psychedelic bands of the late 60s * plus some of the reunions of recent years.

LAUNCH EVENTS
Saturday 12 November with Danny Raven & the Renegades at the Waverley Bowling Club, Waverley Road Southsea. Admission free.

The Renegades will play two sets, there’s a bar and Dave & Mick will be there with copies of the book at just £10 each (cash please)from around 7.30-8 pm. Waverley Road is south of Albert Road at the trafficlights.

Sunday 13 November with Reet, Petite & Gone at the RMA Tavern, Cromwell Road, Eastney. Admission Free. (https://www.rmatavern.co.uk/).

Reet Petite & Gone (with Dave) will play two sets on Sunday afternoon starting around 2pm. Dave & Mick will be there with copies of the book at just £10 each (cash please) from around 1.00 pm.

Friday 18 November, Blackwell’s University Bookshop,Cambridge Road (at the north end of the Students’ Union in Cambridge Road

Dave & Mick will be there to celebrate the official publication.

BOOKSHOPS
Initially, the books will be available at Blackwell’s(above), the Southsea Gallery in Albert Road (opposite the King’s Theatre) and the City Museum (Museum Road). In the shops they will retail at £14.95.
