Rod provided inspiration for Swansea FC to get promoted to the Premiership for the first time in 28 years when they beat Reading in a thrilling 4-2 Championship play-off final at Wembley yesterday.
Scott Sinclair, was the hat-trick hero as Swansea surged into a 3-0 lead and withstood a frenzied Reading comeback to win the £90 million affair – the richest one-off match in football – which Swansea will celebrate by joining Rod on stage tomorrow.
Jubilant manager Brendan Rodgers said: “We had a great motivation going into the game. We have Rod Stewart on at the Liberty Stadium on Wednesday and Rod said to us, if we win the game, he wants us all on stage.
“So staff, players – we are there on Wednesday night up with Rod, Maggie May, the whole lot.
“One of his guys came and told me, ‘If you win, he would love to have you on stage’. I love Rod Stewart, but I’m a hopeless singer.”
