Saint Jude have been mentioned quite a few times now on the SMILER message board. They are a band in the tradition of great British rock groups and described by legendary Rolling Stones producer Chris Kimsey as like a “Modern day Janis Joplin fronting the Faces”.
With praise like this it’s easy to see why Ronnie Wood has jumped up and guested with them no less than five times; firstly at their Paradise Club gig in 2008 doing a fantastic version of the Faces track Flying and more recently this year, fans in the 100 club saw Ronnie join in on “[I Know] I’m Losing You”. He also played slide guitar on a track “Garden of Eden” from the bands hotly awaited debut album “Diary of a Soul Fiend”, recorded and produced in Nashville and Kentucky by Chris Kimsey and mixed by Dandy Warhol producer, Tony Lash, that will be released this April.
Ronnie is not the only big name to have shown interest in Saint Jude. Pete Doherty of The Libertines personally asked them to support Babyshambles at his rhythm factory gigs and Mike Scott of The Waterboys invited the band to support them on their UK tour.
Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin) has been spotted twice at their show, at the Albert Hall and the 100 Club, and Mick Jones of The Clash turned up at their Paradise Club show in Notting Hill, so they’ve definitely been hitting the right vein for Rock’s Royalty…
The Saint Jude line up is Lynne Jackaman Vocals, Adam Greene Guitar, Jo Glossop Keyboards, Colin Palmer Bass and Lee Cook Drums and the band site The Faces as one of their main influences along with Big Brother and the Holding Company, The Rolling Stones, Free, Aerosmith, The Patti Smith Group, The Black Crowes, Led Zeppelin, Supergrass, The Kinks, Humble Pie, The Who, A Camp, Joan Jet and the Black Hearts, The Only Ones, The Band, Aretha Franklin, and The MC5.
Saint Jude are now ready to spread their “Freak n Soul” Gospel to the world – There have been many comparisons and while their influences shine through in a joyous nod to some of the great British rock groups of the past, they bring a fresh, original and modern swagger to the world of Rock,n Roll.
Lynne Jackaman who has been described as the most beautiful front woman in London told SMILER The Faces are undoubtedly one of our biggest influences, they define the combination of sloppy and tight, which is no mean feat and something we have tried to bring into our music. They also appeared to be having the most fantastic time! The combination of Rods wonderfully powerful soul voice and Ronnie’s raw and edgy blues riffs have probably influenced more bands than any other. Sometimes a band becomes more than the sum of its parts and the combination of Ronnie lane and Kenny Jones rhythm section with Macs keys is second to none, we adore em!
We have been very lucky to have had Ronnie Wood get up and play with us five times and also play on our album – and Adam gigged with Ronnie, Ian and Kenny at London’s Drury Lane Theatre. We cant wait to see em tour again!’
