Dave Fanning is a legendary Irish radio DJ, renowned for giving U2 their first significant airplay and for hundreds of interviews with the world’s most famous rock and pop stars. He is highly respected within the music industry and his extensive knowledge means that he asks all the right questions to get the most interesting answers out of these internationally-renowned artists.
In the first show of his new TV series Dave chose to interview Rod.
Dave told SMILER – I’ve met Rod a few times. He’s a great interviewee. No pretensions, no bullshit. At heart he’s a rock ‘n’ roller, out front an entertainer. He talks about his voice problems from a decade ago and also why his voice suits an interpretation of The Great American Songbook. As a songwriter he admits he’s lazy. He talks about the time he brought his kids back to the tiny place where he grew up in London and the mistake he’s made in giving them houses at his own place in LA.
