When We Were The New Boys

"It was scary for the first two numbers, but I told myself: The voice sounds great, you're enjoying it more, you've got the energy. So there was no looking back. It was a great breakthrough. If you had said to me four or five months earlier 'You've got to go on stage in London or Glasgow, the home team, without having your drink', no chance. You might as well have cut me arm off".

Rod Stewart on his sober debut at Earl's Court, 1998. "There is nothing worse than trying to drink away your troubles".
