Mostly a good show from Rod and Carlos

Report from Rosemont, IL, Allstate Arena 16/8/14 By Kevin Kridle

Mostly a good show from both Rod and Carlos Santana. Albeit, pretty much the same song line up as usual this tour for both. Rod sang "I Don't Want to Talk About It" which he pulled from the stateside set list back in the 80s. Another addition was the return of "Stay With Me". He prefaced it by asking if we remembered the Faces. Appeared as though everyone did (I was wearing a black t-shirt with the orange faces logo on the front, which a lot if people thought was cool) from the cheers. He then said, "don't give up on a reunion just yet and then continued with his worn out ...them all being in zimmers joke. We call them walkers here, so few probably knew what that meant.

As everyone will know by now, Rod and Santana do "I'd Rather Go Blind" Put Rod together with a great guitarist and you get some incredible effort from him. Unfortunately, Santana's guitar on the song is bit too much. At times, almost sounding like an encore to the hour and half Latin rift festival you heard him perform prior to Rod taking the stage. Much prefer his guitarists or Faces backing him on that song.

The acoustics in the Allstate Arena aren't fantastic and during the opening number, "Infatuation" Rod and the girls sounded a little bit like Alvin and the Chipmunks or as if they were breathing in helium. Both acts could have improved the sound quality by turning down the volume. It was too loud and as a result, at times, the mix suffered from being murky and the instruments undistinguishable. Best Rod vocal of the night, "Have I Told You Lately"
