Rod donates £10,000 to Carlisle United

To help flood clear up

posted by Mike Walton

Carlisle United's Brunton Park was flooded by Storm Desmond last month and Rod had helped the league two club
by donating £10,000 to club's flood appeal.

Rod handed the Cumbrians a boost after just two Premier League clubs responded to the club's desperate plea for help in their flood appeal.

Carlisle, who take on Everton in the FA Cup fourth round on Sunday, needed funds to help with the clean up but only Everton and Sunderland answered the request.

Ground staff at Brunton Park have got the pitch to a playable standard just weeks after it was entirely flooded However, wanting to help the club's plight, Rod told The Sun: 'I felt for Carlisle when I read about the problems they've had with their pitch and how hard it was for them to raise money.'I wanted to help. I'm donating 10k to their flood fund and wish them best of luck in the FA Cup against Everton.'

Carlisle chairman Andrew Jenkins, so disappointed with a lack of response from the big clubs at their time of need, said of Rod's donation: 'This is a wonderful gesture. Things like this help to give everyone a lift.'
