SMILER Member Kathy Hurd wins meet and greet in Charity Bid

posted by Mike Walton

I have been a big fan of Rod Stewart for almost 25 years now and I have to say the VERY FIRST concert I attended back in the early 90's, my seat was more than half way back from the stage. As I stood and partied at the show - singing, dancing, whatever - at the end of the show, I noticed Rod pulled a couple of girls on stage. At that point I knew I would never sit back that far again. I would have to be first or second row - that was a definite !!!

I have gone to more shows than I can even count and have met so many great people that share this same love. I am so happy and lucky to have had the opportunity to get a couple of pictures with Rod. It has been such a pleasure meeting him and I absolutely appreciate the time he has taken on these occasions as I know how busy he is. To take that time meant the world to me.

On August 24, 2014 Rod (for the first time) came to my hometown of Youngstown, Ohio and performed. It was the last show on the tour and I have to say he did not disappoint. So many of my friends and family attended this show and were so IMPRESSED with his professionalism, his voice and the excitement he delivered to the crowd. The next day my phone was ringing off the hook just telling me how they truly enjoyed the show and can understand why I love going to Rod's shows. The excitement and energy at his shows is incredible. My daughter who is 26 years old and her husband also attended their first Rod show. She sat in the first row on the side of the stage and Rod threw her a soccer ball. Rod made his way from the side towards the center of the stage and threw another soccer ball to me, then to my friend Marcy. My daughter was so excited she wrote on her facebook page - MOVE OVER MOM - I think I am taking your spot !!!!

What made this show even more special was my friend Marcy, Dave, my husband and I had won front row tickets from the Charity Bid and also meet and greet passes for backstage. Rod was so kind to meet up with the four of us before the show, take pictures, autograph a few things and give us each a glass of white wine. I cannot thank him enough and let him know that this will always remain on of the most memorable moments of my life.

THANK YOU ROD FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART - until the next show.....see you in the front row !!!
