AMAZINGLY
THIS was the first Rod Stewart book by English authors in 13 years!
Written by Tim Ewbank and Stafford Hildred, two writers who you
may have heard of from various magazines and newspapers, this provides
a good account of the story sticking closely to the events detailed
in Tremlett's first biography. It also contains an array of new
information and informative interviews most notably with Long John
Baldry, Brian Auger and the otherwise never heard of Rod Sopp who
was apparently an old pal of Rod's. All provide new and often amusing
stories. I
assisted the authors with some of the research for this book and
in return they gave SMILER perhaps the most enduring 24-carrot
gold plug of all time, as 19 years later this book remains very
much in print, outliving all of the competition! The authors tell
Rod's story in a friendly and affectionate manner charting everything
from his busking days right through to The Great American Songbook
in the updated version published in 2003. In summary, this book
offers the full story, plus a nice selection of photographs.
At the time of writing it remains the only Rod Stewart book still
in print. The original 1991 hardback is now a sought after collectors
item worth around double its original selling price.
