Strictly Come Dancing's big star line up

BBC delighted with Rod and Lily

posted by Mike Walton

STRICTLY Come Dancing bosses have beaten off competition from The X Factor to land a guest performance by Lily Allen.

At the recording of Saturday's show Bruce Forsyth joked with the audience that Sir Elton John was "too busy looking for a baby" to sing on the hit ballroom series.

But Bruce then revealed Lily would be appearing soon along with Rod Stewart and Mariah Carey, and Bette Midler will also return.

Strictly is in direct competition for guests with the ITV talent show X Factor, which has so far staged performances by Robbie Williams and Whitney Houston that pulled in massive ratings.

A BBC source said: "Lily is someone both shows wanted so we're delighted.

"She is just the kind of star who will help attract younger fans to the series.

"And Rod Stewart is another big name we are delighted to get."

Strictly lost out to the X Factor in the ratings battle on Saturday, pulling in an average of 8.4million compared with the ITV average 11.6million.

Ronnie Woods estranged wife Jo was voted off the show this week after getting the show's lowest ever score.
